About this deal

The author is none other than John Wiseman, otherwise known as Lofty Wiseman. Becoming, in 1959, at the age of 18, the youngest person pass selection for the SAS (Special Air Force), his compendium of escapades and intense experiences have left him fully qualified for the task of writing a thorough and substantial SAS survival guide. The book is so thorough that I wish there were words to describe it. The SAS Survival Handbook even goes into things like forest fires or tsunamis. It covers the most important aspects of living through anything life can throw at you. If you can read and live in society, you can get something out of this book. Written by former SAS soldier and instructor, John "Lofty" Wiseman, this application brings you the elite training techniques of Britain’s toughest fighting force in the most accessible version ever. Now you can take the world-class survival skills of the SAS with you anywhere in the world – from the peaks of Kilimanjaro to the deserts of Kandahar…or to your closest national park. The human body is magical. On the one hand, the human body has stricter requirements on the temperature, humidity and other parameters of the external environment. Therefore, we need to use the limited luggage we carry with us to create these environments as much as possible so that we can survive longer. But on the other hand, people's ability to adapt is extremely strong. Even if we don't reach the best state, we can overcome it for a short time. This kind of spiritual wisdom and adaptability is our ability to achieve more than other creatures. one of the main factors. On the flip side, you don’t want to go too cheap or just plain get the wrong thing. There is no reason to get some free guide written by someone nobody has heard of and doesn’t know what they are writing about. You want something reliable that gives sound, practical survival advice.

When it comes to accidents and natural disasters, the Survival Handbook indeed does cover all grounds. However, it also helps you prepare for anything from a car accident or animal bite to a nuclear explosion! How to patch up a wound He’s now an instructor at the Trueways Survival Schoolwho provide survival training, including being consultants for news channels and TV shows such as Survivors on the BBC. SAS survival tips This book is poorly written, terribly organized, and horribly (I mean HORRIBLY) edited, but I almost gave it four stars. Obviously, you don't read a book like this expecting great literature. The guy who wrote it isn't a writer (and apparently neither were his "editors") -- he's a legit survival expert. The sheer amount of useful information in this book makes it worth owning and worth actually reading. Besides the obvious worst-case-scenario imagination-stimulation, you might actually learn something that could someday save a life or two.

I didn’t find the organization as bad as some other reviewers the book is broken into 11 categories (essentials, strategy, climate and terrain, food, camp craft, reading the signs, on the move, health, survival at sea, rescue and disasters). It often does tell you to flip to another section for more information, which is annoying and breaks flow but it is clear this book is intended as a reference guide. The sections on navigation and movement were especially thin and the part on disasters could have been left out completely since it was so brief it wasn’t useful. What was really missing was a list of other books that focus specifically on certain topics to read if you want more information. With this book, John Wiseman seeks to provide the reader with the knowledge to survive any wilderness survival or disaster situation. It details basic survival skills, like how to build a fire, to more complex and situation-specific skills, like how to take shelter while indoors during an earthquake. Climate & Terrain: How to survive in all manner of different environments from polar regions to arid regions. Special Air Service, Special Air Service (SAS) is the special forces unit of the British Army. The SAS was formed as a regiment in 1941 and reorganized into a corps in 1950. The unit specializes in multiple missions, including counterterrorism, hostage rescue, direct action, and covert reconnaissance. Much of the information about SAS is highly classified, and neither the UK government nor the Ministry of Defence has commented on it due to the secrecy and sensitivity of its operations . He gained worldwide fame and recognition after his televised rescue of all but two hostages during the siege of the Iranian embassy in 1980.

The amount of money you spend on something like a survival guide shouldn’t blow out your entire budget. A guide is important, but there is a wide range of price points from free to courses that cost thousands of dollars- so there is something for every budget. Health: Learning first aid priorities and procedures, such as the Heimlich manoeuvre and others and a small encyclopedia of medicinal and poisonous plants and dangerous or poisonous animals. If you would like to improve you survival skills I would whole-heartedly recommend you get a copy. However, there are three formats to choose from and even if you simply want the book, be careful about your selection. The SAS Survival Handbook first edition The SAS Survival Handbook Disasters: How to survive major disasters, such as floods, avalanches, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanoes, earthquakes and nuclear aftermaths. The SAS Survival Handbook is a powerhouse of information and will help you to be a competent and safe explorer. The Survival Handbook is worth any extra expense you may have to pay, as you will see its positive effect on any excursion you may undertake. Sleeping in a lean-to-shelter The SAS Survival Handbook contains survival tips to confront any dangerous situations with confidence.

Essentials: The basics of what you need to do to prepare for a journey and how to collect salt and water. A book about surviving in the most desperate conditions has to be written by someone who knows their stuff, who has faired the most perilous conditions and come out the other side. The SAS Survival Handbook isn’t something you can make up; you can’t fabricate and babble about its contents. Survival essentials The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Anywhere There are other Survival books, albeit more specialized, like Bushcraft 101 or those about flora. This one aims to be The Ultimate Guide and covers a lot: The Essentials to bring with you, Strategies to adopt (psychological and perception), Climate and Terrain to adapt, Food including what not to eat and how to cook, Camp Craft and tools, Reading Signs when you’re camped, want to be rescued or are On the Move; Health and its obligatory first aid procedures, Survival at Sea, Rescue etiquette, Urban Survival and self defense methods and finally Disasters, from natural to nuclear. When you get the right blend of these, you can find a trusted guide that will help you navigate tough situations while you are in them. Below, we break down what each of these features means for a survival guide and the authors that made ones that set themselves apart. Value: Cost vs. Benefit

Basic survival information including: building fires, finding water, navigating by the stars, survival kit, signals and codes You will want the guide to follow some semblance of structure, whether it is the survival rule of threes, pillars of survival, or even phases of emergency management. Content Quality When you are looking for a survival guide, you want something that gives broad survival advice but can also advise you on specific situations. Actionable information in a guide is more useful when you need it than just descriptions and theories.

Loft Wiseman served for 26 years in the SAS, and as Head of Operational Research in 22nd SAS, he founded the SAS Counter-Terrorist Team, known as the guys who sieged the Iranian Embassy in 1980. Under an emergency shelter These books contain a vast array of information, carefully arranged into useful sections. Every survival subject is covered, from the essentials including many ways of finding water, through food, shelter, navigation, disasters, climate, terrain to health and first aid. The books deal with not just the practical, but also the mental approach to survival in any situation. When in a high-risk situation, you can consult the handbook for all circumstances. Want to know what body language to use when up against a wild animal, how to purify water, and how to tie a useful knot. A good or bad knot can make all the difference, Wiseman knows this and helps by concentrating on a small enough selection of useful knots to work with but broad enough variety to use for many applications. Wakos transport knot The SAS SURVIVAL MANUAL won acclaim upon its publication in 1986, both because of its clear organization and the illustrious career of the soldier behind it, John "Lofty" Wiseman who served for 26 years and participated in operations all over the world. Having examined a range of survival manuals, I decided to sit down and read this one in depth, and all in all I'm happy I did. There are clear, often colour illustrations for edible and poisonous plants and for tying knots, while the instruction on how to properly butcher a deer or sheep are easier to grasp than in some other manuals. There's a fine section on eating insects that is missing from other guides. John Wiseman split the book into chapters for easier digestion. It covers everything I can think of and more. Do you have to live off the land? The book has an entire chapter on edible plants and tubers. Were you in a horrible plane crash? If you survived unscathed, the book describes how to administer first aid to those in need. Are you running out of supplies and need to get the attention of a passing airplane? The book has an entire section on signaling. Does any of that sound impossible to you since you never travel? The book discusses local dangers particular to the Urban Jungle.
