About this deal

It was a daytime reality show that brought several women into a house to help them let go of past defeats and truly start over on their dreams. I would recommend any book she has ever written without even reading it because I know that it will be a huge take away from reading whatever advice she gives! Unfortunately, Gliori pushes her point a bit too hard with a closing treacly analogy to the light of stars: ""We may be close, we may be far,/ but our love still surrounds us.

Also, this book includes the issue of death and the possible death of a parent and this is something that any child would struggle with immensely and so it is great that there are books such as this one to remind children and help them with such difficult concepts and scenarios. I admit that I read straight through the book without doing the exercises the first time around but I do plan to go back and work through each chapter more fully to see how I can apply some of Lisa's wisdom to my life.Sally Donovan's account touches upon the depth of despair, unbearable strain on a small family unit, incompetent or insensitive professionals, and fairly non-existent support. A good book for reading to a class particularly for use in PSHE or RE and would work well from reception. Life is often described as a journey and funerals are a time to reflect on this, making this passage from The Lord of the Rings a popular choice for funerals, particularly non-denominational or humanist ceremonies.

If you are looking for a non-religious alternative, however, there are some beautiful poems to choose from.

I would definitely use this book in a KS1 classroom linking strongly with PSHE looking into families and acceptance. Lastly, I would like to dedicate this review to a driven young woman who first mentioned Lisa Nichols to me. Picture books that are reassuring can help soothe a child, help them know that they are loved–or should be loved. When hard times thwart our success and steal our joy, these ideas actually invite despair by leaving us with nothing to do. Lisa’s lay job needed some heartless attitude – they were collecting money from defaulters, and Lisa was too sweet to her clients.

I also really like the idea that the two characters are merely a small character and a larger one, the relationship could be any number of things, small and their: mother, father, older sibling, cousin, grandparent, friend or foster parent/ carer. I think the first time I was introduced to Lisa Nichols was from watching the now cancelled show, Starting Over.

Thanks to The Experiment for providing me with an unproofed ARC through NetGalley that I volunteered to review. This book is sheer therapy for an adopter and enlightenment for anyone who comes into contact with adoption in any way. Not only was the book packed with great exercises but with true stories about how Lisa discovered these exercises. This book should be compulsory reading for potential adoptive parents and for those professionals who touch their lives and pretend to understand what the whole experience is about. It has lovely rhyming language throughout which would help develop children's speech from an early age.
