About this deal

On the run from the CIA’s corrupt Deputy Director Marcus Cain, he has spent the past six months in a remote French safe house. A suspenseful, gripping read that transported me into the freezing mountains and had me guessing to the end. Dark Harvest is competently written, but I think I expected a bit more given how Jordan expertly identifies the issues with other people's work. She (the villain) sounds like a 65 year old Jewish man that’s been smoking a pack of cigarettes a day since birth. After forming an uneasy alliance with WHO medic Lori Dalton, Becker sets out to uncover the truth behind the attack, and quickly realizes he’s caught in the middle of something far bigger and more dangerous.

A climactic showdown awaits, where Drake must question everything if he is to defeat the enemy within. There was a proper book about it, even a speculative movie adaptation about it, and now there’s this…tangentially connected bombastic thriller.

Motivation and proportionate response is an issue with the antagonist(s) in this story for me that can't be ignored. It's also very well written, that may sound like a contradiction with what I just said, but the prose is efficient, vivid and does the job. He gained an honours degree in Information Technology and currently works in web design for Sky Digital. We get involved with Becker and Dalton and care about them as they run through the maze to figure out what the virus is, how to stop it, and where to find the antidote. I also thought Becker was one of the less-developed characters and he had too many “I have a crazy idea” moments.

Honestly, Dark Harvest gave me a 'lazy Saturday afternoon on the couch watching 90's action movies' sense about it. The soldier and doctor must race against time to find a cure that leads from Iraq to Turkey and finally to the infamous Dyatlov Pass, where the mysterious fate of Nine Soviet mountaineers in 1959 may hold the key to saving millions of lives in 2019. This might put people off at first, but what if the film were improved, brought down a notch and had its narrative carefully crafted?
