There are great moments of rebellion, his love for his child and mother, and wanting to make the best music and live performance there ever was, which Luhrmann also spotlights as well. Luhrmann's long-time wife and frequent collaborator Catherine Martin are first rate, as are most of the musical productions and performances. But of course, with Luhrmann and his wife's costume design, the sets and costumes are simply gorgeous to look at.

Others however may not quite so quick to overlook these… and of course, there simply isn’t enough room for the myriad of other characters in Presley’s life to make much of a mark, including Richard Roxburgh’s’ father and Olivia De Jonge’s Priscilla. Several big names had previously been linked to the role, with former One Directioner Harry Styles, and Baby Driver actor Ansel Elgort both reportedly having undergone screen tests alongside Miles Teller and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. And with the resurgence of rock biopics in recent years ( Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody and we’ll even throw in Respect) it was only a matter of time before we got one about Elvis. Facial textures are excellent, with the individual hairs of Butler’s superlative mutton chops nicely delineated, as are some of the outrageous make up appliances (some purposeful, some…not so).

Finally, disk compression appears to be consistent and very good, with no noticeable artefacts observed – bit rates average in the low 70s mbps for the most part across the entire film, with the odd peak nudging just under 100 mbps during specific scenes, all of which were observed with a quick scan through the film’s playback information for those that like numbers. Tom Hanks plays the Dutch-born Parker as a Machiavellian Foghorn Leghorn, equipped with a cowboy hat, an unknowable accent, and a body suit that seems to have been inflated with Flubber gas—it’s a wonder he doesn’t bounce from scene to scene.

Elvishas some great elements to it, mostly Butler's performance and the music selections and sequences that Luhrmann has conjured up under his own beautiful, glitzy, unique style. The two men meet and greet on Beale street just as Elvis is beginning his reign—their student/teacher relationship is but one of many tall tales in Baz’s Brobdingnagian saga.
