About this deal

The review contains my honest, uninfluenced opinion and I was not compensated in any way for a positive review. Although this story has a happy ending, the notes at the end of the book explain to readers that Greta in the real world needs your help. I know also, that a book can't do all of that and more, but it can keep leading our youth in the right direction. I think Greta's words, "No one is too small to make a difference" will inspire a younger generation to use their voice and start to make a difference.

Bert causes such a scene that the school board declares Emily a nuisance and decides to chop it down. In the background are two silhouetted figures, could these be the Giants mentioned in the books title?

Greta has spoken truth to power across the globe and has as many fans as detractors, therefore she must be doing something right. Once I slowed down and read the text I enjoyed the story, I only wish the giants in the real world were that easy to reach. The story is empowering to children, teaching them about the importance of climate change and what they can do to help keep the earth alive. The cover is like a poster for a classic Western movie where our heroine stands legs apart ready for the final showdown with an unknown foe. They completely change their lifestyle and gradually replant the forest to make it even more beautiful than it was before.

There are notes in the back of the book about the real life Greta, as well as notes on what we can do to help battle climate change. The book is also very cute with lovely illustrations and and a nice age appropriate way to make young children aware of climate issues. This is a story of how one person can help create change, and working together for the benefit of everyone. Tell them that we will all work together to make the world a beautiful place for them and their kids. I liked the metaphor of Greta versus the Giants, but I felt that the book is a little too optimistic.

With themes of compassion, courage, and conflict resolution, this Greta and the Giants picture book by Zoë Tucker is a favorite in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms. It might sound ecological to crash two books – the story of our world's Greta, and this fantasy fable's "Greta" – into one, but I know which one I would have preferred to read. This allegorical story is aimed at 4-7-year olds: the simple, descriptive language and bright, colourful pictures will really capture the imagination of this age group. Greta Thurnberg, the Swedish teenager who has warned the entire world about climate change, is living in the forest and giants are chopping down the trees and destroying the environment. A Swedish teenager Greta Thurnberg was wondering why despite all the scary facts about the climate change nobody was doing anything to stop 'the giants'/ goverments and huge businesses from destroying our planet.

This book will surely persuade other children, as well as "Giants" to get their act together and start working towards a cleaner and healthier tomorrow, where our world is fully appreciated and protected. This entertaining picture book, with its rich illustrations, carries an important environmental message. You may want to check out our genre activities or read our blog post, How to Teach Genre to Elementary Students. They don't really think about the future generations and the rest of the living things in the environment.

Yes, it's still a worthy book – with barely more than two paragraphs a spread at times, its attractive artwork conveys the story expertly, and the moral is still the same – but I felt this was a cashing-in exercise. The houses grew into towns, and the towns grew into cities, until now there is hardly any forest left.

The text refers to the behaviour of the Giants after Greta confronts them, but the images look more like the children characters who are doing the protesting. The illustrations are adorable and will grab both the child's and adult's attention whilst sparking a conversation about climate change and humans' effect on the environment. This is the story of Greta Thunberg adapted for younger readers with analogies that would help them understand the Strike for Climate movement. With climate change as such an important and realistic challenge, this book is perfect for your kids bookshelf. Clutter-Free Classroom is the place where elementary teachers get the time-saving tips, ideas and resources they need to make teaching easier and more enjoyable. Coincidentally, this is the second book I read this weekend where the author and the illustrator have the same first name! Problems are afoot at Emily Dickinson Elementary School, and it’s up to Bea Garcia to gather the troops and fight. I will 100% be getting this book for my younger family members, as well as myself because I just can't resist a good illustrated inspiring story!
