I highly recommend for the author’s great fans like me and action packed, exciting thriller readers! Shari Lapena’s sixth stand-alone thriller — 2016’s “The Couple Next Door” may be her best known — is such a quintessential “beach read,” I half expected sand to fall out of it. If you enjoy books with: shite people who are fun to read about, multiple suspects, and multiple motives.

Every page contains some crucial new development, so I always feel compelled to read just a few more pages. A little farther along, beyond the low, glass coffee table, is Sheila Merton in her nightclothes, utterly still. However, I am also sad to say that the big revelation didn't come with a bang and it felt like it was just mentioned and done.You would think people on the edge of a financial windfall would be deliriously happy, or at least grateful in their security, but not these family members. The process encompassed the entire book and with the author’s minimalist writing style, it was a quick and easy read which really appealed to me. At dinner, Fred stuns his family by announcing he and Sheila have decided to sell the house because none of the children deserve it. This was my first novel by Lapena and I own The Couple Next Door so I am excited for that to be my next read by this author! If you’re a fan of the television show Succession, your itch for more Roy family drama will most certainly be scratched with the Merton’s.
