About this deal

Full performance: functionality meets simple design - our paring knife combines peeler, vegetable peeler and kitchen slicer in just one product. It has a weightiness akin to a pro kitchen knife and the curved grip nestles comfortably in the palm. Reviewers are immensely pleased with this product, noting that they were able to peel more difficult produce items, such as butternut squash. For our straight peeler test, we tried out the cousin to the Swissmar Double-Edge Peeler, the Swissmar Curve Peeler.

Kyocera has made a name for itself with super-sharp ceramic knives, so it should come as no surprise that this ceramic peeler performs just as well.We knew we were working with extra-sharp blades when we barely had to apply any pressure to peel tough sweet potatoes. The harp-shaped Y peeler has a super-sharp stainless steel blade and gives great control and quick action to peel paper-thin layers. The plain peeler mode was effective for potatoes and carrots, while the serrated edge worked very efficiently through lemon peel and was delicate enough on tomatoes. We found that it worked wonders on bushels of apples and large quantities of potatoes, but longer foods, like larger zucchini, had to be trimmed or cut in half to fit the machine (which was simple).

Additionally, a swivel blade allows you to peel in both directions and with much more freedom, whereas using a stiffer, stationary blade means you'll have to be on top of holding it at the proper angle for it to grab the peel. The first thing to know about Kuhn Rikon’s Piranha peeler is that it has a serrated blade, which we found made for an easier glide along the vegetable. Unfortunately, we didn’t have as much luck with sweet potatoes, which was disappointing after seeing how well it handled white potatoes. There’s a sharp potato eye remover on the tip as well, making it easy to rid every potato from blemishes. Like any other dirty tool, your best bet is to clean the peeler by hand washing with warm, soapy water. Cheese was a particular revealer of the best peelers, as many of the low-quality models weren't able peel off a whole strand or were prone to getting cheese stuck in their blades.
