About this deal

Below you can find similar Sonicare brushes that we have compared to one another, plus some that we have compared to their Oral-B equivalents.

Controlled by the cleaning mode button, you have 3 intensities, low, medium and high that changes the power and brushing sensation delivered from the brush through each cleaning mode. If you used that head just once a day over 3 months, it would not tell you to replace it until it had been used for the equivalent to 4 minutes a day for 3 months. As some of the newer toothbrushes have a standby or phantom power draw even when they aren't in use, we ran each toothbrush every day for a full cleaning cycle in the morning and in the evening until they died.

This product is designed to deliver that desirable white smile without stripping the teeth of its natural enamel. Both brands feature electric toothbrushes with built in timers, rhythmic vibrations and sleek designs. I’ll explain these briefly below, but we do have a separate guide on sharing an electric toothbrush.

Regardless of which brand you choose, the most important thing is to ensure you use the correct brushing technique. This option is ideally suited for new electric brush users or those with sensitivity in the teeth or gums. You will not find the Optimal and Perfect Clean toothbrushes on the shelves of all the major grocers and pharmacies in the USA. For this test, we had each judge refrain from brushing their teeth for around 18 hours, then use a tablet that stains the accumulated plaque a rather furious shade of fuschia. I don’t believe it is a feature we are all crying out for, but as things go, it is a nice addition and makes further use of the microchip in the brush head. Continuing to use it for a bit longer isn’t a massive issue, but it could be cleaning less effectively and the tips will likely have become worn and could be more abrasive on the surfaces in the mouth.

That excludes the different colour options and those that come packaged with different brush heads in the box. Please note that much of the content in this post still references the older ProtectiveClean 4100, not the 4100 Series. But, when selecting between these 4 different series, it is the 4000/4100 Series that is my top choice.

But, we can speak firsthand when we say the difference is noticeable, particularly when used side by side. With its unique BrushSync technology, the head and base will sync-up to remind you when the time comes – with a simple short beep and handle light. I achieved 17 days of use on the higher of the 2 brushing intensities but a staggering 41 days on the lower. It can prevent issues such as gum disease or yellow teeth, and give you more confidence in your smile. The 4100 comes with 1 x C2 Optimal Plaque Control brush head compared to the 1 x C1 ProResults of the 3100.
