About this deal

The DVD contains the feature length documentary as seen in cinemas along with over 15 minutes of extra footage, a special booklet of all the secret Spitfire locations and subtitle facility is included. We meet various workers, men and women who worked at the factories, describing how life was like working in secret without the faintest idea about the scope of the operation. Ultimate Warbird Flights are delighted to offer you the chance to experience what it was like for those pilots and take the controls of this legendary fighter for yourself with an unforgettable flight in our very own Supermarine Spitfire. Finishing the book by bringing it back to the modern day and telling the story of Joe Roddis and Betty Woods reconciliation was very emotional.

Created by the amazing David Hilowitz, this plugin allows all of our users to freely access the majority of the virtual instruments on the site. Once you’ve made your first instrument you get your own profile page where you can tout what it is you do to the community at large. Nichol did an outstanding job highlighting the mental and physical tolls taken on the pilots and how it effected them for years to follow. Spitfire takes the time to tell the story of those who fell in love with the plane and their experiences that lead them to that love. Also the courage and fortitude of the War generation never ceases to impress me, no matter how many times I read about it.Oddly, it wasn’t until I actually started reading this book that I remembered a time when I was 14 or 15 my Dad took me to an airshow as a father/daughter outing about three hours’ drive from where we lived. Our range of Spitfire books includes fascinating testimonies from former wartime pilots, detailed technical specifications, and captivating stories that will transport you back in time to the skies over Europe during the Second World War.

The stories focus on the heartbreaking tales of those who had to serve and sometimes give up their life for us to be here today. A great shame that many of the Spitfire pilots interviewed as part of this book are no longer with us, but this book certainly does its fair part in keeping their stories alive. I think it’s good that he was able to capture many of these memories now, as there are not that many people left alive who flew Spitfires in the Second World War, and in fact, throughout the book, there are notes that the person telling a particular story didn’t live to see the publication of the book.

Some of the stories could be straight out of Biggles, whereas others make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you realise how much sheer luck and timing could mean the difference between life and death. I was so sad to hear of the sudden death of Ethem, he was a joy to work with and a consummate professional, I shall treasure the laughs and crazy stories over a jar or two. Ken French, one of the veterans written about in this book, had a brother who was married to my granny’s sister.
