Other than the characters, I thought the book was really well paced and I often found myself saying just one more chapter every time I picked it up. It’s six o’clock on a warm summer’s evening and Ramzy Rahman and I are staring at the back entrance of the Spanish City entertainment center, not daring to knock. A delightful novel about friendship, dogs, loyalty, and saving-the-world, set against the backdrop of a canine-born Ebola virus. I have never, ever been happier than when Dad opened the door to the living room, and I first saw this bundle of fur, wagging his tail so much that his entire backside was in motion.

This was certainly an enjoyable read, though I didn't connect with it as I have some of Welford's other novels (especially Time Travelling with a Hamster and The 1,000-year-old Boy). Her name – Pretorius – is borrowed from the mad scientist, Septimus Pretorius, in an old 1930s movie The Bride Of Frankenstein.

A lovely genuine friendship between Georgie and Ramzy - Ramzy will literally go through dogsh*t for his best mate but is strong enough to stand up to Georgie when they disagree. Having fallen in love with their individual characters, we are desperate for Georgie to do the impossible and change the future. Little do they know that they are being watched by a crazy scientist, and their lives are about to change shortly! The ususal Ross Welford collection of madcap characters in a Geordie setting (my Geordie accent is getting good now! Now, to complete his delight, there should have been a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning revealing Dr.

The Dog Who Saved The World - Ross Welford

George and Harold link up in kindergarten to reduce a quartet of vicious bullies to giggling insanity with a relentless series of pranks involving shaving cream, spiders, effeminate spoof text messages and friendship bracelets. We come up with so many convoluted answers to that question, but they’re all just stories to avoid having to tell the truth, which would disappoint.

As a preschool teacher, I can relate to the importance of the early years, which can have a lifelong impact on our children.

The dog who saved the world: A must-read for all Book Review| The dog who saved the world: A must-read for all

I enjoyed Georgie as a narrator and thought her friendship with Ramzy was very genuine and well-written. Pretorius is a Black woman whose Afro is commented upon frequently, and her blue eyes cause Georgie to stare and squeak in surprise—a treatment that feels othering. Georgie is a fabulous character with a unique and funny voice, and I liked her a lot for many reasons, but most of all for her unswerving love for dogs and desperation to protect them throughout. It was originally a story about a girl who gained the power of precognition, but it developed into something very different.Eventually, I lift up the wolf’s head, which hinges at the jaws, and bring it down with a single sharp rap that echoes much louder than I expected, making Ramzy jump. Family life as perceived by children is explored and again gives the story its humour and poignancy. There, he witnesses fellow inmate Tippy Tinkletrousers (aka Professor Poopypants) escape in a giant Robo-Suit (later reduced to time-traveling trousers).
