About this deal

Millie hears gossip from other mothers and nannies about Nina’s mental health and discovers an “antipsychotic” medication, among others, in Nina’s bathroom cabinet. Unfortunately for them, she isn't easy to scare and she also has a motive for wanting to stay at Highwood Hall.

According to Netflix, the show will likely reach 67million households in its first four weeks, surpassing the record set by The Queen’s Gambit, which was watched by 62million subscribers. At times humorous and at other times quite dreadful and worrying, the interactions they have with each other are what moves the story forward and, personally-speaking, I never got tired of witnessing them. The Maid was generally well-received by critics, including starred reviews from Booklist, [2] Library Journal, [3] and Shelf Awareness. Overall, it's a pretty good mystery with an easy to follow story line that takes the reader through the then and now timelines. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own… Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom.

During her studies, she published her first public writing in the form of blog posts and local publications [13] followed by Internet-based publications such as HuffPost [7] and Vox. Daisy's task as a new maid to a wealthy family is to watch over a young kid, but unknowingly she's being watched by the kid's father. Millie realizes that the woman is being abused by her husband and assures her that she can help her. The story is mainly set in present day with Ruby the new housemaid but it does jump back occasionally to her mother Emily.

In her first few days Ruby receives a terrifying diorama in the post, despite having no family and no friends she doesn’t really seem as concerned as I would be with someone knowing where she is and threatening her life. On her first day, strange things begin to happen to her-including receiving a diorama depicting her death. He drugs her and her baby, places Cecelia in a bathtub, and makes it look like Nina did it, which lands her in a psychiatric hospital with a diagnosis of depression and delusions, ensuring that no one will believe her account of things.Ruby’s own connection with this house along with the ongoing events in the home make you keep turning those pages.

It seems as if fortune suddenly favours her when she is hired to work as a live-in housemaid at the Winchester residence. The main character sits with the mysterious Alex Howard and turns the pages of his music as he plays the piano. Katy Read of The Star Tribune suggests, "The next time you hear someone say they think poor people are lazy, hand them a copy of Maid. Nina is forced to drop out of college and begin working after she gets pregnant after a drunken one-night stand. Anyone who loves The Woman in the Window, The Wife Between Us and The Girl on the Train won’t be able to put this down! It's not unrealistic that a posh rich high class families still have "housemaids" in the 21st century. Booklist's Jennifer Kinnavy noted that "Ambrose delivers a pitch-perfect performance of Molly and the interesting cast of characters. The detective reveals that the police never investigated Nina’s claims of being locked in the attic because of the pull that the Winchesters had over the department. But I'd forgive the author because of how brilliant her storytelling is, and how wonderfully she has strewn various red herrings throughout the story to keep the readers recommend. At Andrew’s wake, Evelyn Winchester, Andrew’s mother, reveals to Nina that she disciplined Andrew as a child in a similar manner to how Andrew tortured Nina.

She is a recovering drug addict who thinks she has finally found her lucky break by getting a job at Highwood Hall. I will concede the first half of the book does move a little more slowly, largely to give the author the chance to drum up the mystery to her liking, to leave clues laying about for our benefit, and naturally, to create expectations which will subsequently be shattered. With the heavy emphasis placed by the author on the psychological aspect of this novel, you might assume there would be little room left to make a thriller out of it. The deal, brokered by Bookouture’s head of rights Richard King, is part of a strategic partnership with global content leader Lionsgate which is financing the acquisition. Freida McFadden is an American author and practicing physician who specializes in the field of brain injury. You will need to suspend quite a bit of disbelief and some of the surprises and reveals are easy to guess. The end reveal felt way too dramatic, almost reminiscent of a 1990s Hindi television serial, and it didn't impress me much.
