About this deal

Author Guy Bass introduces SCRAP, about one robot who tried to protect the humans on his planet against an army of robots. One day Tilda's world turns upside down and suddenly everything is more difficult than it used to be. This is redeemed by the idea that things were still not 100% straight even after Tilda tried harder and the notion that you should not give up even when things are emotionally challenging. I think these books are amazing, necessary and perfect for small kids to start getting familiar with different feelings and emotions. As soon as I saw Tom Percival had published this, I have been wanting to get my hands on a copy and it did not disappoint!

Tilda Tries Again (Big Bright Feelings) by Tom Percival

It was the first book that I remember loving and was (guess what) atmospheric, magical and slightly dark. This book deals with depression/being in a difficult situation in general, which I think is great to see in a children's book.

Another tremendous triumph from Tom Percival with Tilda Tries Again - dare I say it might even be my Big Bright Feelings picture book yet! Reading about Tilda in a book allowed for a new viewpoint rather than the same reassurances from mum and dad.

He’s just everything that you would want a hero to be, immensely powerful, over confident, full of humour, and immaculately dressed. However, if you're looking for a book on something specific or heavier like a death or illness, this might not be the best starting point. A lovely book which supports children’s emotional well-being and mental health by promoting resilience, problem-solving and a can-do attitude when challenges occur. Tim and Tobias is the first book in the ‘Flight Path to Reading’ reading scheme and was written by Sheila K. Perseverance and resilience are things that a lot of children are lacking and as such this book is incredibly important for them.

Many of the illustrations have a black and white background with a colourful character in the foreground. Tom Percival's Big Bright Feelings series is the perfect springboard for conversations about mental and emotional health, positive self-image, building self-confidence and managing feelings.

The youngsters directed their father from the TV gallery, helped count down and shouted ‘action’ when the cameras started rolling. Can’t wait till March 2022 for it to be published in the US so that I could finally share it with my students! Elementary educators are always looking for a good successful working metaphor for "persistence": look no further, here it is. She creeps closer to observe the ladybird wriggle and struggle but, alas, it seemed that just like Tilda, the ladybird was going to find it just too hard.

It doesn’t deal with any actual ‘step-by-step’ breakdowns of what to do, but reminds you of key principles, such as being emotionally honest. Singer Harry Styles, Captain America star Chris Evans, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and British actor Tom Hiddleston have also appeared on CBeebies Bedtime Stories. It doesn't specify whatever it is that turns Tilda's world upside down, but that means it's a great starting point for any big change a kiddo might be experiencing. Former Rugby League player Rob Burrow will be the first non-verbal star to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story. The winners of The Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards 2023, highlighting the work schools are doing to encourage a love of reading, have.I liked this book, but I would say that the rest of Percival’s books in this series are far superior to this one.
