About this deal

The way CRTs produced an image was by using an electron beam tracking, that would cause the pixels to turn on and off almost immediately, leaving no afterimage behind as it rendered the next image. Their monitors get used by a ton of professional gamers, and you see them at pretty much every serious CS:GO tournament (sometimes with the logos stickered over, but they’re very recognizable) these days. We’ve touched on the fairly limited colour gamut above as well (~91% sRGB coverage) and the lack of support for wide colour spaces like Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 which leaves you with a screen only suitable for standard sRGB gamut content.

There were moderate levels of overshoot detected with our oscilloscope measurements, particularly on a few changes from light to dark shades shown in the bottom left region of the overshoot table. Anything but sitting straight in front of the panel (there’s some wiggle room of course, but no more than 10 degrees or so) will lead to noticeable color changes, so make sure that you’re sitting right in front of the panel when gaming, and not viewing it from an angle.

The viewing angles are the main challenge, with the image showing noticeable changes in gamma and colour tone as you move viewing position.

The underlying concept suggests that the fusion of an ultra-fast 360Hz TN panel with superior backlight strobing should yield unsurpassed motion performance – a notion we're keen on testing today, before exploring 500Hz monitors in the near future, hopefully.A TN panel, no matter how good it is, is never going to live up to a good IPS panel when it comes to the overall image quality, and that’s something that you should take into account when considering this monitor. Gamut coverage – we provide measurements of the screens colour gamut relative to various reference spaces including sRGB, DCI-P3, Adobe RGB and Rec. Other 360Hz gaming monitors use IPS technology and still cost more, but they tend to be much larger and have more luxury features that suit gaming and multimedia immersion. This is pretty typical from adaptive-sync screens without variable overdrive, but actually at no point did we feel that the overshoot became problematic or particularly visible in practice.

If you’re not going for all-out performance, you’re better off looking at a cheaper 240Hz monitor, or an IPS monitor, or a monitor with a higher resolution, or a combination of all of the above. The foot of the stand is also nice and small, giving you flexibly in positioning of your screen and peripherals for gaming. However, the premium reflects the Zowie’s skunkworks nature with its high development costs and super-niche market size. Finally TN Film refresh rates have caught up with IPS panels, and it will be really interesting to see how this performs from a response time, motion clarity and gaming point of view. What’s even more incredible about the DyAc+ Technology is that it is not dependent on your PC or tied to a specific hardware requirement. This preamble is necessary because it’s what the Zowie XL2546K is all about and, even then, we’re not finished. On the left is the AMA ‘High’ setting which is the optimal mode from the default settings provided, including a single overdrive mode experience should you also enable adaptive-sync variable refresh rates. TN Film is still very much limited to this smaller screen size and lower resolution, but this is still very popular in the competitive gaming and Esports space. On a still image, this poses no visible problem, but when the image starts to move, the liquid crystal’s inability to turn off quickly results in the previous image still being visible momentarily while the panel renders the next image. Keep in mind that this is a gaming screen aimed at a very specific audience – high end competitive and Esports players who are focused on super fast response times and high refresh rates, primarily for FPS type games.
