About this deal

Only available from Audible, a gripping psychological thriller from the author of Silent Child, Saving April, and The Broken Ones. Her ministry started with only a handful of people but has grown steadily over the last fifty years. This new compilation of her published work features pieces on why you should pursue purpose over passion, embrace negative thinking, see the wisdom in daily routine, and become aware of the cognitive biases that are creating the way you see your life.

It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil. how people like to come for some short thrills and leave with their video cameras having not really "seen" or made any real sacrifice. Although she tells her story in a very matter of fact way it has a mesmeric quality; almost dream like. One adventurous woman's life (because she hated the words missions and ministry) in the slums and drug dens of Hong Kong.

She started sharing the love of Jesus Christ with gangsters and the poor in the Kowloon Walled City and began to see them set free from drug addiction and start new lives. What hideous things come out of a culture in which demons are worshiped: children brought into the world by parents' greed so that they will serve them; children bought and sold or produced simply so the adult will have someone who will worship their memory when they're dead. The experience of reading this was similar to reading The Glass Castle or Educated in that it felt so disconnected from my privileged life. The beginning of the book shared her testimony and how she ended up in HK, then the middle of the book was one miraculous story after another strung together without much reflection from Jackie regarding her ministry and what she was learning and reflecting on. The disadvantage of short-term missions is a wrong perspective based on this generation's need for instant results. She is founder of the St Stephen’s Society who preach the gospel, reach the poor and see people set free through faith in Jesus Christ. I could not understand it at first and wondered how my Chinese friends had so suddenly improved, or if I had stumbled upon a new evangelistic technique.
