The joining the dots process of recreating these blocks, allows one to understand the building blocks (no pun intended) of a pattern. You might find it helpful to use our free Introduction to Pattern Cutting eBook to give you a better understanding of all the pattern cutting symbols and terminology.

A good book for learning how to make your own patterns, design your own clothes, just the way you like. Winifred Aldrich does a separate book about tailoring which is really detailed and I would highly recommend it if you’re after more tailoring knowledge! I bought this new edition for my daughter and will be borrowing it back as it has some very useful additional chapters to my original. I would recommend it to anyone who has experience of dressmaking and pattern adaptation but wants to branch out into creating their own patterns. This best–selling textbook with its tried–and–tested presentation of authoritative text and clear diagrams remains the essential purchase for students of fashion and design.Colour illustrations also offer a new dimension to the updated material on computer–aided design and the CAD chapter now provides students with a clear guide to the technology. Depending on what you want to get out of this book that could be great but it could also be a little confusing for those who are wanting to learn to pattern cut as a hobby. Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear provides a straightforward introduction to the principles of form pattern cutting for garments to fit the body shape, and flat pattern cutting for casual garments and jersey wear. Eigentlich muss ich sagen das sind sie alle, sowohl für Baby/Kinder-, Herren- und eben Frauenbekleidung.

Winifred was formerly Professor of Clothing Technology at Nottingham Trent University and a practicing fashion designer. Loads of exciting things to make from lingerie to exercise and outdoor wear to smart tailored coats. We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there is something for every literary palate. I love the way that this book takes the basic shapes and shows how to adapt them to create such a huge variety of garment shapes and sizes.

I think the fact that almost every pattern cutter that I know has a copy of this book speaks for itself! Si vous lisez l'anglais, et plus particulièrement l'anglais technique de la couture, si vous désirez construire vos patrons, ne cherchez pas ailleurs, ce livre est LE livre. Metric Pattern Cutting for Women s Wear , first published in 1975, provides a straightforward introductory book for students beginning courses in flat pattern cutting. No markings, blind stamped ownership seal to corner of half-title, Near Fine; no dust jacket as published. This book contains instructions for creating patterns for just about every conceivable womenswear garment you'd want to make, with the exception of lingerie. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

The book then progresses through any type of outfit you could imagine right through to the final details you may want to use in your designs. The size charts of body measurements have been revised, reflecting the changing shape of women′s bodies. The great expansion of casual wear has led to the growth of ′flat cutting′ with no darting, and the section devoted to this type of cutting has been further expanded. I personally use the 5th edition of this book (purple cover) but if you want to be all up to date there is now a 6th edition (Oliver green cover) , I'm not sure there's much difference though. My other criticism here is that the bodice block is drafted without any waist shaping, this is added as an option at the end of the section and isn’t done in the clearest of ways. This book offers a range of good basic blocks, an introduction to the basic principles of pattern cutting and examples of their application into garments.
