In any event, whether intentional or not, the effect is the same - Lloyd's glasses disguise directly inspired the introduction of Clark Kent's classes disguise, since Kent was based visually on Lloyd. There was Christopher Reeve’s tortoiseshell specs in the beginning, then Dean Caines horn-rimmed glasses in the New Adventures of Superman and, of course, Tom Welling’s wayfarers in Smallville. Interestingly, while Clark Kent’s glasses were meant to hide his identity as Superman in the original Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster Superman stories, one Superman origin story offered a very different take.

Fast forward to the mid-90s and Superman’s back on the small screen in The New Adventures of Superman. The name of the artifact is a reference to Superman's alter-ego Clark Kent who uses a pair of similar glasses as part of his everyday, ordinary disguise. In any event, outside of the first page (which shows Clark Kent doing some super feats as part of the whole "demonstrating Superman's powers" routine), the first time that we ever see Clark Kent is when we see him looking to make sure that Superman's name has been kept out of the papers. Irritating to even love-interest Lois Lane at times, his floundering disguise will never have people the finger pointing to him when guessing who Superman really is! In his spare time, you can find him entertaining kids as Spider-Man or Darth Vader at birthday parties or scaring the heck out of them at haunted houses.
