Keep the door to the battery simple like it is, no complicated door-latch with moving parts like your Edirol R-09 which I bought a long time ago. Complicated mechanical doors to get to the batteries and memory card will break and make the otherwise pristine electronics unusable. Scenes is a feature I did not expect to use. Typically I lean toward manual control modes for tech devices, as the convenience features often involve compromise. As it turned out, Scenes is a timesaver and great for impromptu recordings. I used it extensively during my time wi th the R-07. It stores and recalls settings for the sample rate, recording mode (eg 2x WAV-24bit dual recording mode, MP3-128kbps etc), limiter, low frequency cut and input level. Scenarios include “Field”, “Voice Memo”, “Loud Practice” and so on. The pre-configured settings and titles are well chosen, but are easily customisable and can be overwritten. Defaults are easily recoverable too. Once you recall a Scene from the dedicated button you are not tied down and can use it as a starting point, from where you can change any of the settings. Unreliable remote app: The app has many bugs, a confusing user interface, and its performance is unreliable. The R-07 does fall apart in a blow test where I blow on each of them at the same time. One of the advantages of the M10 has always been the fact that you don’t need additional wind protection.Some ambitious home producers may move their laptop (with interface and microphones) around their house, searching for the “perfect sound.” The R-07’s portability and stereo mic array can be set up anywhere instantly. Troubleshooting the above USB connection issues by turning off the device; once set the “OFF” text to keep displaying past its 3-5 second period for instead minutes until the batteries were removed.

The R-07 offers preset parameter configurations called Scenes, designed for common recording needs (e.g., Loud Practice, Vocal, Field, etc.). Each Scene stores the record mode and resolution, input level, low-cut choice and limiter settings. Ten scenes are provided, but you can customize and save them as needed. Another feature, the Rehearsal function, lets you automatically (or manually) set the input level of the R-07 based on incoming volume level during a specified length of time. Dual Recording and Limiter : To avoid the problems of clipping (distortion due to excessive gain) the R-07 has a limiter and dual recording mode. In dual recording mode two recordings are made simultaneously with one at a lower recording level, so if the main recording clips you can utilise the quieter recording. For the microSD card to use for updating, use a card that has already been formatted (initialized) on the R-07. User experience is alright, but not great and potentially a dealbreaker for some. I have had some issues:Never turn off the R-07's power while the update is in progress. Otherwise the system program or the R-07 itself may be destroyed.
