About this deal

The author uses all the senses in the plot, smells that overwhelm, sounds that disturb, strange images that add a vertiginous feeling and build the anxiety and pain. It plays its cards extremely close to the vest so I won’t say anything more about the plot so you can discover the craziness for yourself. Shouldn't they at least be bright enough not to draw attention to themselves as they make their escape? A leaked NSA memo from 2012 is quoted saying "it is becoming apparent that other nation-states are honing their skill[s] and joining the scene", evidence that the NSA is aware of the ever closing gap in capabilities. Together, they are driving south from New York, for their first holiday together: three days in an isolated cabin, far from the city.

However, Kristin Halbrook's debut is one of those rare books in which I actively sought out information about the author's vision for her book. Begins fine and gets to the set up pretty quickly and then when we reach that point…it kinda stagnates and loses its momentum as it goes back in time and tells the back story of our two main protagonists amongst others. Nobody But Us’ is billed as a dark thriller by British-based French-born author, Laure Van Rensburg.

What could you possibly expect from a couple of teens who'd only ever wanted to get away from their problems? Zoe and Will definitely love each other and each of their baggage is pretty harsh to learn about, but I had a hard time connecting with these two characters on so many levels because they seemed extremely childish and not in a negative way, more of in a very naïve sense. Although I’ll admit that towards the end, she did come to her senses, but by then I didn’t care about her anymore.

Though this event from my past had little impact on my life — except, perhaps, for being the source of one of the A’s on my official transcript — it’s always lingered in the back of my mind. Overall, my adventures with Zoe and Will was highly disappointing and not even my signature favorite of a road trip was able to salvage this story for me. I actually stopped reading to look up whether this was a romance novel, but no, it’s supposedly literary suspense. I don’t want to put any spoilers in here as you really need to read this thriller book for yourself to see just how good it is. When Will sees a news broadcast reporting the incident, he and Zoe run out of the dining establishment so fast they leave his wallet behind, causing the waitress and everyone else to look closely enough at them to put two and two together. It is an extremely overlooked issue even in this day and age and light should be brought to these being ongoing crimes committed toward women and the perpetrators appropriately prosecuted. It’s like Zoe and Will were just a couple of teenagers who just wanted to be together, sadly they were turned into hardened criminals who didn’t think twice about hurting anyone who got in their way. I don’t want to say much about the characters as they’re critical to what plays out between them, lets settle for they both keep big secrets. Laure van Rensburg zaprasza na weekend do pięknej luksusowej willi, dostrzegalnie nasączonej aromatem toksycznej atmosfery.

Nobody But us led me to believe it had everything I love about a contemporary romance book; two teens in love knowing they’re meant to be together. Despite seeing her bruises, he made the extra effort to get to know her, also not having the best life growing up either, you can say Will and Zoe were the perfect match. I would certainly recommend this book and would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers Penguin for letting me review Nobody But Us. What can I say I’m a sucker for a sweet romance, but unfortunately despite starting off great, the story kind of just went downhill. In August 2016, a group of still unknown hackers known as the Shadow Brokers leaked NSA code that revealed the exact tools of the agency, effectively giving NOBUS capabilities to anyone who got their hands on the code. There were some surprises but they felt a bit contrived to me, leading me to believe that the message the author wanted to send was center stage and the story was built around it. Everyone makes mistakes, the most important point is to take responsibilities for the mistakes you have made. This was lighter on the dark academia vibes than I anticipated, and I would have preferred some sections to feature more of a focus on the couple's time at university, but that was a very minor flaw in an engrossing and immersive, wickedly devious read.
